A striking companion pair of antique Chinese export blue-and-white porcelain plates, likely dating to the Qing dynasty, circa 1750-1780. Although not an identical matched pair, the plates complement one another beautifully in size, coloring, and traditional hand-painted decoration.
Each plate measures approximately 8 15/16 inches in diameter and features cobalt-blue decoration beneath a softly aged glaze. Natural glaze irregularities, firing pinholes, surface scratching, and rim fritting are consistent with their considerable age.
One plate remains structurally sound, with no known major cracks or repairs. The second plate has an old full-width break secured with several metal staples-an evocative example of an early historic repair- and has associated hairlines. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
Unmarked. Offered together as a decorative companion pair. Because of their age, condition, and historic repair-, they are recommended for decorative display rather than food service.
The plates were given to the present owner approximately 20 years ago by a retired antiques dealer and neighbor.
