Charming vintage Hawkeye by Burlington picnic basket, manufactured by the Burlington Basket Company of Burlington, Iowa, circa 1960s.
This classic mid-century picnic basket features a handsome woven body in deep forest green and natural wood, accented by warm honey-toned trim and sturdy arched metal handles. The hinged composite lid has an attractive basket-weave surface with brass-tone hardware, while the generously sized interior provides ample storage.
Approximately 65 years old, this wonderful piece of American mid-century design retains loads of vintage character. The rich forest green weaving paired with warm natural wood makes it especially attractive for display as well as practical storage. Use it for picnics, linens, magazines, craft supplies, or simply as a decorative accent in a cottage, rustic, traditional, or eclectic interior.

The woven basket body presents very well and remains sturdy and functional. There is a noticeable area of material loss along one outer edge of the composite lid, as clearly documented in the photographs. The metal handles are fully functional and sturdy. Due to age-related expansion along the edge of the composite lid, the handles rub against the widened edge when being moved up or down. As a result, a little extra effort and gentle maneuvering are required to move the handles around the edge of the lid. This does not prevent the handles from functioning as intended. Additional minor scuffs, surface wear, and patina are consistent with age and use. The material loss and resistance when repositioning the handles have been taken into consideration in the asking price. Please review all photographs closely for condition details. less
