This is a unique mixed media piece by the American painter and sculptor David Webster (born 1947). It is an untitled piece in his Histology Series around 1999 and unusually executed on a background of cardboard puzzle (topic unknown) in acrylic paint with a solution that provides visual dissolving.
David Webster's work has continually bridged art and science, in this case medical science. He came to this when his father suffered a terminal illness and the intimate images of the body at microscopic levels intrigued him. He also had noted that his accidental spill of turpentine on a wet oil painting resulted in a visual effect with a similarity to human tissue samples.
Born in Wadsworth, Ohio, he worked in the USA and in France with his pictures and sculptures exhibited broadly across Europe and the USA.
The work measures 8 inches wide x 11 inches high. It is deep set in 1 inch deep simple ebony black wood frame which measures 13 1/2 inches wide x 17 1/2 inches wide. Ready to hang.
