This singular work by David Mansot depicts a suspended Nordic Cabin, a meticulously handcrafted assemblage of reclaimed and weathered materials that evokes a secluded and poetic refuge, seemingly suspended beyond both time and place.
The cabin is constructed from dark, aged timber whose weathered appearance conveys the charm of a well-loved woodland retreat. Its façades are punctuated by large glazed windows that introduce a sense of openness and fragility, inviting light into the intimate interior while creating a dialogue between shelter and the surrounding landscape.
The steeply pitched roof is crowned with a rusted metal chimney, reinforcing the atmosphere of a modest refuge designed to withstand the harsh northern climate. Suspended beneath the structure is a solid wooden barrel transformed into a traditional Nordic hot tub, ingeniously integrated into the composition and connected by delicate metal ladders and suspended walkways. An intricate framework of ropes, platforms and netting surrounds the cabin, evoking a maritime or mountainous environment, as though the dwelling were perched high above water or suspended over a dramatic precipice.

David Mansot's work belongs to an artistic universe where meticulous craftsmanship meets poetic imagination. His creations exist somewhere between imaginary architecture, sculptural design and dreamlike refuges, transforming reclaimed materials into evocative miniature worlds.
This Nordic Cabin suggests:
•A timeless refuge, isolated yet subtly inhabited by an invisible presence.
•An adventurous dwelling, rooted in a landscape of icy winds, dramatic fjords and the silent vastness of the Nordic wilderness.
•A dialogue between humanity and nature, celebrating an inventive, self-sufficient way of life in harmony with the elements.
•A suspended sanctuary, where architecture becomes a metaphor for freedom, contemplation and escape.
Entirely handcrafted, David Mansot's cabins blur the boundaries between architecture, sculpture, collectible furniture and contemporary art. Every work is unique, inviting the viewer to wander through an imagined landscape where memory, childhood, travel and architectural fantasy converge.
Both delicate and remarkably expressive, David Mansot's cabins are captivating sculptural creations that inspire contemplation and escape. They invite us to rediscover the universal symbolism of the cabin—not merely as a place of shelter, but as a timeless sanctuary where imagination, craftsmanship and poetry meet.
DAVID MANSOT :
David Mansot, born in 1972, is a French artist, designer and cabaniste - a term he proudly embraces to describe his singular artistic universe, situated at the crossroads of sculpture, fine woodworking, design and micro-architecture. After training in cabinetmaking and applied arts, he worked for many years as an interior architect, developing a refined sensitivity to form, materials and living spaces. In 2020, he decided to devote himself entirely to his artistic practice.
His work is primarily dedicated to the creation of suspended miniature cabins—remarkable architectural sculptures crafted entirely by hand. Every piece is unique, fashioned from reclaimed timber, salvaged materials and weathered architectural elements that he carefully transforms into new creations. This approach reflects his deep attachment to traditional craftsmanship, vernacular architecture and a respectful, sustainable use of materials.
Through his creations, David Mansot explores a deeply poetic world inspired by the treehouses of childhood, woodland retreats, travel, cinema, literature and human encounters. His constructions appear suspended beyond time, balancing dream and reality while evoking places of refuge, freedom and contemplation. Each cabin tells its own story, inviting the viewer to imagine the lives and memories of its invisible inhabitants.
His creative process generally begins with a watercolour sketch, a poetic study that allows him to establish the composition, proportions and atmosphere of each work before translating it into a three-dimensional sculpture. This method gives every creation a powerful narrative dimension while preserving the spontaneity and sensitivity of the original drawing.
David Mansot's works exist at the intersection of architecture, sculpture, collectible furniture and contemporary decorative art, deliberately dissolving the traditional boundaries between these disciplines. They appeal equally to collectors of contemporary art, design enthusiasts and admirers of exceptional craftsmanship.
In 2023, David Mansot participated in the exhibition "Small is Beautiful" in Brussels, alongside seventeen other internationally recognised miniature artists. The exhibition introduced his work to a wider international audience and further established his reputation within the world of contemporary miniature art.
Today, his creations are represented in numerous private and public collections throughout France, Switzerland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, the United States and Japan, reflecting the growing international recognition of his artistic vision.
Through each of his extraordinary cabins, David Mansot celebrates imagination, memory, refuge and the intimate relationship between humanity and nature. Delicate, dreamlike and meticulously handcrafted, his works invite viewers on a poetic journey where architecture, sculpture and fine craftsmanship come together in perfect harmony. They embody a timeless vision in which childhood memories, architectural imagination and the beauty of reclaimed materials are transformed into unique works of contemporary art.
