George Rennie was educated at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and spent his professional career at the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale. At Yale, Rennie sculpted dinosaur bones including the giant squid which hung from the ceiling at the Peabody Museum. In 1965, Rennie spent a month touring cathedrals in the Soviet Union. For many years he worked as a talented and prolific painter and sculptor, painting traditional icons for Orthodox and Byzantine churches.
As a philanthropist, Rennie endowed the Rennie-Rilling Museum of Earth Sciences at his alma mater, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
