A substantial Danish two-piece highboard from the 1960s, combining warm teak casework with a lighter oak support structure and an unusually open, architectural form. The upper cabinet appears to float above the lower credenza, supported at either side by tall sculpted uprights that continue down into the legs. This separation gives the piece a much lighter presence than its size would suggest and creates an open display surface between the two sections. The upper cabinet is fitted with sliding teak doors and circular recessed pulls, while the lower section combines additional sliding storage with a central bank of three drawers. The contrast between the darker teak cabinets and lighter oak supports gives the piece much of its character, particularly at the shaped side uprights where the construction becomes almost sculptural. Its two-piece construction offers considerable storage while keeping the overall design open and balanced. The broad lower surface works naturally for serving, display, or barware, while the upper cabinet provides enclosed storage without visually closing off the room. A distinctive piece of Danish modern casework with thoughtful proportions, strong material contrast, and a floating construction reminiscent of the more architectural work associated with Hans Wegner and his contemporaries.
