An exceptional large-scale Rosenthal porcelain Pierrot figure designed by Dorothea Charol during the Art Deco period.
Standing an impressive 13.5 inches tall, the figure depicts an elegantly elongated Pierrot performer in a dramatic theatrical pose, with expressive hands, pointed shoes, fitted jacket, flared peplum and beautifully modeled ruffled collar.
Executed entirely in luminous glossy white porcelain, the restrained monochromatic palette emphasizes the sculptural modeling and gives this approximately century-old figure a remarkably contemporary presence.
Dorothea Charol's theatrical figures are among the distinctive figural designs produced by Rosenthal during the early 20th century. The exaggerated proportions, stylized costume and dramatic gesture beautifully embody the European Art Deco fascination with theater and performance.
The underside bears the green Rosenthal Bavaria crown-and-roses factory mark with D.R.P.a. and the base is impressed “D. CHAROL.”
