This finely detailed composition records the celebrated pack of stag hounds belonging to the twelfth Earl of Derby. The printed inscriptions beneath the image identify the depicted riders and horses. At the left is Edward, Lord Stanley, the Earl’s eldest son and heir, accompanied by his son, the Honourable Edward Geoffrey Stanley. Huntsman Jonathan Griffin of Carshalton appears near the center, while the mounted figure leading the pack at the right is the whipper-in, Jem Bullen.

The scene depicts four mounted figures and an expansive gathering of hounds moving across a softly rendered English landscape. Deep red hunting coats, a striking blue jacket, brown and white horses, and muted green countryside create a timeless example of traditional British sporting imagery.

The piece is custom framed beneath glass in a substantial gilt-finished frame. A wide navy-blue mat, cream inner mat, and narrow gold accents create a sophisticated presentation with considerable decorative presence. The navy-and-gold palette is especially well suited to an English country, traditional, equestrian, library, study, office, or collected gallery-wall interior.

A vintage Milton A. Bleier Corp. label remains on the reverse and identifies the piece as number 4241/P, with the decorative designation “King Rooms / Blue Scheme / Hunt.” The piece weighs approximately 14 pounds and retains its hanging wire.

This is a vintage decorative reproduction after the historic Barenger and Woodman image. It is not represented as an original early-19th-century engraving.

CONDITION

Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The artwork remains bright and very attractive beneath glass, with softly muted color and clearly visible printed details. The navy, cream, and gold matting presents well.

The gilt-finished frame exhibits minor scratches, including slightly more noticeable wear along the upper molding. The brown paper dust covering on the reverse has age-related losses. These rear-covering issues are not visible when the piece is displayed. The hanging wire remains attached. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
