Striking vintage Art Deco flush mount ceiling light, likely dating to the 1940s, featuring an exceptionally decorative pressed glass shade paired with a chrome-finish metal ceiling mount.
The substantial round glass shade combines clear and opaque white glass in a wonderful series of geometric patterns characteristic of the Art Deco and Machine Age aesthetic. The underside features dramatic concentric rings of clear pressed glass, while the sides alternate between vertically ribbed clear glass, smooth opaque white bands, elongated linear motifs, and finely textured diamond-patterned sections.
The combination of transparent, textured, and opaque glass creates wonderful visual depth and allows the fixture to take on a particularly striking appearance when illuminated.
The shade is secured to the circular chrome-finish metal ceiling mount with three side screws. The fixture contains two ceramic light sockets and is designed as a hardwired flush-mount ceiling fixture.
Its relatively low 4 3/4-inch overall profile makes it particularly well suited to spaces with lower ceilings while still providing considerable decorative impact. An excellent choice for an entryway, hallway, powder room, bathroom, kitchen, dressing room, or other space where authentic period lighting can serve as an architectural focal point.
No maker’s mark has been identified. Based on its materials, construction, geometric pressed-glass decoration, and overall design, the fixture is attributed to the Art Deco / Machine Age period, circa 1940s.
