The SP63 “Sandretta” table mirror was designed by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova in 1966 and represents a refined example of Italian Radical Design from the mid-1960s.
The mirror features a walnut base paired with a circular white lacquered wooden frame holding the mirror glass. The two elements are connected by brass screws that allow the mirror to rotate along its horizontal axis, combining functionality with a strong graphic and sculptural presence. The contrast between natural wood and vivid red lacquer reflects Sottsass’s experimental approach to color, form, and material.
The Sandretta mirror belongs to the same creative period that produced some of Sottsass’s most iconic works for Poltronova, including the celebrated Ultrafragola Mirror. During these years, Poltronova established itself as a leading platform for avant-garde Italian design, collaborating with key figures such as Mario Ceroli, Archizoom Associati, and Gae Aulenti.
