A striking monumental three-panel wall sculpture titled “Smokey Moon Shelter” by R. Earnhart, signed and dated 1993 on the reverse.
Measuring an impressive 93 inches wide, this sculptural triptych is composed of three individually contoured panels that form one continuous panoramic composition when installed together. The work appears to be executed in a stone-like molded composite medium, likely a resin/mineral composite, over a wood-backed structure, giving it the dimensional presence of carved or cast material while remaining suitable for wall display.
The composition is rich with Southwestern and biomorphic imagery, including radiating sun forms, arrows, and botanical motifs. The palette of sand, cream, ochre, rust, brown, and charcoal creates a warm, earthy presence, while the mottled surface treatment evokes weathered stone or desert terrain. The work also incorporates suggestive, biomorphic imagery and subtle erotic symbolism, adding a provocative undertone to its Southwestern visual language.
With its sculptural depth, unusual irregular panel shapes, and commanding scale, this is a dramatic statement piece well suited to Southwestern, organic modern, rustic modern, eclectic, or collected interiors.

The fronts retain strong color, crisp incised and painted detail, and the original textured surface. Light age-appropriate surface wear, minor scuffs, and small edge imperfections may be present. The mottled and variegated surface appearance is inherent to the artist’s intended finish. Reverse surfaces show minor wear from handling and installation, including mounting hardware and holes. Overall, the piece presents very well. less
