This exquisite vintage Greek Orthodox icon features a striking three-dimensional relief metal overlay (riza) meticulously handcrafted in .950 fine silver. The icon beautifully depicts the traditional Byzantine motif of Saint George the Great Martyr mounted on his steed as he slays the dragon, with a princess looking on from a distant castle tower. The saint’s visage is individually hand-painted with exceptional detail in the classic angiography style, creating a stunning contrast against the detailed metalwork.
The silver plaque is securely mounted on a solid, dark-stained wooden panel with its original integrated brass hanging bracket intact on the reverse. The silver retains its original, untouched dark patina, beautifully highlighting the intricate textures of the scales, armor, and surrounding celestial stars. The reverse side features the original orange "Silver Tradition Art" certificate, which has been hand-stamped with the studio's official red ink workshop seal. This custom/artisan stamp serves as the verified export clearance and authenticity mark direct from the Greek workshop. A timeless piece of religious art, perfect for traditional galleries, curated shelf styling, or an eclectic gallery wall.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The silver overlay is intact with no tears, dents, or deep scratches. The metal displays a rich, natural aged patina that has been intentionally left unpolished to preserve its vintage character and depth. The wooden mount is solid, and the original paper certification label on the back remains fully legible and intact with its distinctive red ink authentication stamp clearly visible.
