The work features a removable domed cover decorated in a hand-painted checkerboard pattern of glossy black and deep turquoise, topped by an abstract human figure with thin metal arms. The cover rests on a square black-glazed base raised on four spherical turquoise feet, giving the piece an unusual architectural presence.
The combination of geometric forms, expressive figuration, saturated glaze, and intentionally irregular hand-worked surfaces gives the piece a strong Postmodern and contemporary folk-art character. The underside is incised “Bourbeau 9/25,” identifying it as number 9 from a limited edition of 25.
An unusual collectible example of late-20th-century studio ceramics that works equally well as a sculptural object or decorative covered vessel.
