Creamy whites and soft blush pinks form the luminous center of the composition, surrounded by golden yellow, rose, burgundy and crimson blossoms against a muted olive-brown ground. The artist uses expressive, layered brushwork and areas of light impasto to give the petals dimension and movement, contrasting beautifully with the smooth, dark blue vase. Several fallen blossoms and loosely trailing stems lend the composition a naturalistic, informal quality characteristic of late 19th- and early 20th-century European floral painting. Signed at the lower right and presented in an ornate giltwood frame with carved floral and foliate decoration.
