The deep … Read more A large hand-knotted Boujaad rug woven by Berber women in Morocco's Boujaad region, in the Middle Atlas foothills. The deep magenta-purple ground is worked in high-pile wool and layered with a freehand composition of concentric diamonds, zigzag borders, and scattered tribal motifs in coral, pink, emerald, black, and ivory — the improvisational, non-repeating style that distinguishes Boujaad weaving from more formal Moroccan carpets.

Wool on wool throughout, with hand-plaited fringe at both ends and a flatwoven reverse in the same saturated ground color. Four decades of use have left the pile exceptionally soft underfoot while the natural dyes remain remarkably vibrant — an unusual combination, and one that makes this a particularly good bedroom rug. Consistent with its age, the piece shows honest wear including some fringe loss. See less
