history
papier-mâché has been produced in kashmir for more than six centuries, having been introduced from persia during the fifteenth century. Local craftsmen refined the technique into one of india's most celebrated decorative arts, creating beautifully lacquered objects including boxes, bowls, trays, vases and furniture.

traditionally, each piece was carefully hand-decorated by skilled artisans before receiving numerous coats of protective lacquer, resulting in the rich glossy finish for which kashmiri papier-mâché is renowned throughout the world.

the romantic garden scenes featured on this lamp draw inspiration from persian poetry, mughal court life and traditional miniature painting, depicting musicians, lovers and tranquil garden settings surrounded by abundant foliage and flowers.
