the whimsical motif recalls the imagery associated with the wonderful adventures of nils by swedish author selma lagerlöf, although the design is conservatively presented without a documented attribution to the literary character.
the simple cylindrical form and raised figurative decoration give the piece a distinctive scandinavian character. The inner edge is clearly marked “gab alp”, identifying the manufacturer and material.
