c. 1920s-1930s; OshKosh B'Gosh - Oshkosh, WI
Single-sided porcelain advertising sign for OshKosh B'Gosh overalls, painted in vivid red, white, and blue. The graphic depicts a bearded workman in striped shirt and overalls giving a welcoming gesture, alongside bold block lettering: "Buy OshKosh B'Gosh Overalls - Union Made." Manufacturer's mark at lower edge reads "Burdick, Consumers Bldg. Chi."
The OshKosh B'Gosh brand was founded by Grove Manufacturing Co. In 1896, the company's name changed to Oshkosh Clothing and Manufacturing Co. In 1911, general manager William Pollock heard the phrase "Oshkosh B'Gosh!" in a vaudeville routine and started using it as a tag for the company's overalls. The company formally adopted the name OshKosh B'gosh in 1937.
