A substantial 72-drawer oak library card catalog featuring dovetailed case construction, steel base, and nickel-plated pulls with integrated label frames. Each drawer is fitted with a sliding rod (two rods missing) for organizing catalog cards, preserving the original library system functionality. The oak drawer faces are exceptionally well-preserved with a warm patina, while the top surface and rear panel show heavier wear from decades of institutional use.
Library Bureau Makers, founded in the late 19th century under the guidance of Melvil Dewey, became the preeminent supplier of card catalogs and library furnishings in America.
