Nice, hand painted porcelain cheese plate with surrounding sterling silver rim. The rim has the sterling mark on the outside of the rim. The porcelain plate was signed by F. Vosmansky, a famous Russian artist. He was known for his drawings of birds and animals. He manufactured these drawings on coasters, glasses, pitchers, and plates. This cheese plate is matched with a sterling silver (handle only) cheese knife with a Sheffield stainless steel blade. The sterling mark is stamped on the handle, and Sheffield Stainless Steel is marked on the blade. Measurements: The cheese plate is 7 1/2" round and 1" high. The cheese knife measures 8" long.
Vosmansky partnered with Cyril Grainoff, another Russian artist, and ran a high end Madison Avenue NYC retail store from the 1930s-1950s. They had an exclusive partnership with Abercrombie & Fitch that resold many of their items.
