Avant garde furniture design of the 1960s: This modular study by Erwin Behr combines thoughtful functionality with timeless design. Inspired by the design language of Dutch designer Cees Braakman, renowned for his work for Pastoe, it was created as part of the BMZ program (Behr Furniture Disassemblable) an innovative furniture system developed around flexible construction, easy assembly and disassembly, and lasting quality.
The ensemble consists of individual, detachable elements including feet, shelves, side panels, tops, intermediate shelves, doors and drawers. The components can be easily assembled and dismantled using corner screws and specially developed connecting elements. The connectors are made of solid teak wood and underline the intelligent construction and high level of craftsmanship of the system. Adjustable metal tube feet compensate for uneven floors, while patented hinges ensure precise alignment and smooth door closure.
The carefully designed interior offers numerous functional details: on the left side, drawers with blue velvet lined interiors provide elegant storage for cutlery or personal accessories, with an integrated minibar positioned above. The right side features a secretary desk with various compartments and small drawers, complemented by large drawers in the lower section. Glass sliding doors create an elegant display cabinet, while wooden sliding doors provide concealed storage. Generous shelving areas offer flexible space for books, artwork and personal objects.
Crafted from light teak wood on veneered Behr particleboard, with rear panels made of teak veneered plywood, the piece reflects the careful selection of materials and the craftsmanship typical of Erwin Behr furniture. The furniture elements are finished with solid wood edge banding, ensuring a high quality finish and enhanced durability. The warm teak surfaces, clear proportions and functional construction create a timeless aesthetic.
With its versatile storage options, this modular study adapts effortlessly to different living environments as a sophisticated home office, elegant library, stylish living room piece or refined addition to both classic and contemporary interiors.
