This simplistic, large frosted glass pendant has a … Read more Vilhelm Wohlert for Louis Poulsen, 'Satellit' pendant, opaline glass, brass, Denmark, 1959. This simplistic, large frosted glass pendant has a minimalist, modest aesthetic. The globe is finished with a brass fitting. The lamp is open at the bottom through which this lamp gives off a great light partition. The chandelier is designed by Vilhelm Wohlert for Louis Poulsen. The light is typical for the minimal, midcentury modern Danish design with soft curves, solid materials and refined finishes. Vilhelm Poulsen (1920-2007) was trained as an architect at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He was a professor at the same school and also worked at Berkeley University. One of his highlights was the designs he did for the Louisiana Art Museum in Denmark. Together with Louis Poulsen he designed a variety of luminaires in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. Wohlert received numerous prizes and awards including the C.F. Hansen medal from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1979. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
