The structure consists of vertical iron bars secured with visible rivets, arranged in three panels that create a subtle interplay of light and shadow. In the center, a brass element with elongated openings introduces a warm, textured point against the darker iron that surrounds it. Two tall brass finials, with an organic, flame-like profile, crown the side posts and extend downwards into brass legs that terminate in sculptural, hoof-shaped feet. The screen is a freestanding, non-folding panel, giving it the presence of a small architectural object in front of the hearth. Marshall trained in Spain and became known from the 1970s onwards for furniture, lighting, and fireplace accessories that treat iron and brass as sculptural materials, beyond their practical function, often produced in small workshops rather than in industrial series. The scale and rectilinear silhouette of this piece suit both a traditional fireplace and a more contemporary space, where the contrast between the dark iron and polished brass can serve as a decorative element even without active use.
