Antique Hilditch & Son Chinoiserie Porcelain Teacups Pair
Made in Staffordshire England 1825.
Each Approx. 2 3/4” High x 4 1/4” Wide Handle to Edge x 3 7/8" Diameter.
An exquisite pair of rare, early 19th-century English soft-paste porcelain teacups. These beautiful examples feature the highly collectible Regency "London Shape" silhouette. The exterior and interior rims are decorated with an intricate Chinoiserie pattern outlined via a red transfer print. The scenes are then masterfully filled in by hand with vibrant enamel color washes depicting figures in an outdoor pavilion setting.
Because these cups date back to the 1820s, they are entirely unmarked on the base. This is standard for everyday porcelain manufactured in the Staffordshire region during this period. Comparable pieces can be found indexed in The Victoria and Albert Museum ;permanent ceramics collection.
Excellent used antique condition given a lifespan of roughly 200 years. No major chips or large restorations observed. (Note: Please examine all photos closely for minor glaze hairlines if any). Bright, unfaded enamel colors with minor wear to the over-glaze accents consistent with age. Features charming, factory-original kiln imperfections including typical small dark firing specks and minor grit caught on the foot rims. Normal wear from use and age.
