A striking vintage oil painting depicting The Penitent Magdalene, after the celebrated circa 1742 composition by Italian painter Pompeo Girolamo Batoni. The contemplative figure is shown reclining within a dark grotto beside an open book, rendered in a rich, moody palette with deep teal drapery.
Beautifully presented in a substantial layered frame combining black molding with ornate bronze-gold foliate detailing. The dramatic scale, classical subject and richly finished frame give the piece wonderful Old World presence and make it an impressive room anchor.
