The curved, flared armrests and the straight seat frame create a calm, clearly proportioned overall form with a cohesive silhouette. Historical context: Upholstered sofas of this design were created in the 1920s and 1930s for the bourgeois living room and parlor. They combined the artisanal upholstery tradition of the 19th century with the minimalist lines of the interwar period: exposed wooden frames, curved armrests, and fixed upholstery without loose cushions. As a central piece of seating, the sofa served for entertaining and socializing in the formal part of the home; the compact two-seater form was also suitable for smaller urban apartments. Features: Flared, curved wooden armrest fronts with a carved volute motif. Decorative brass nailing runs along the lower edge of the upholstery. Design: The design follows the formal language of Art Deco and the interwar period: a visible, dark-stained wooden frame encloses the upholstered body, while the projecting armrests give the straight basic form a curved contour. Ornamentation is limited to the volute motif of the armrests; the effect arises from proportion and line, not from decoration.
