The clean two-tone design and the slender, tapered legs create a calm, formally cohesive appearance characteristic of everyday furniture from this period. Historical Context: In the 1950s and 1960s, Germany saw a large-scale production of lightweight, mass-produced seating for kitchens and dining areas. The industrial processing of molded plywood allowed for ergonomically shaped seats and backs with minimal material usage and low weight. Such chairs were standard furnishings in many post-war households and were used in kitchens, dining rooms, and utility rooms; colored surfaces combined with light-colored frames reflected the interior design tastes of the time. Features: Two-tone design with a cream-white frame and red surfaces; the plywood construction is visible at the edges of the seat and back. The crossbars in the frame are staggered and slightly angled – a distinctive design detail of this series. Design: This set is a prime example of mid-century design from the 1960s. The design follows the principles of this era: slender, tapered legs, clean lines without ornamentation, ergonomically shaped seats and backs made of molded plywood, and visible, functional screws for the backrests. The proportions are light and open, with the frame receding into the background behind the colored surfaces. Dimensions: Height 78 × Width 40 × Depth 42 cm, seat height 45 cm (per chair, set of 4 chairs). Material and Condition: Solid wood frame, cream-white lacquered; seat and backrest made of molded plywood, surface likely plastic-coated. Very well-preserved condition with minor signs of age-related wear, stable and fully functional. These signs of age and use are part of the historical character. See less
