The balanced proportions, the delicately curved legs, and the subtly articulated frame lend the piece a formally cohesive and serene overall appearance. Historical Context: Game tables have been part of refined interior design since the 18th century and were designed for parlor games such as card and dice games. A characteristic feature is the hinged or sliding top, beneath which lies a fabric-covered playing surface that dampens noise and protects the cards. During the Historicism movement, Rococo styles experienced a revival towards the end of the 19th century, combining traditional carving techniques with contemporary manufacturing methods. Furniture of this type was frequently found in salons and ladies' rooms, serving both functional and representational purposes. Features – Folding mechanism with four triangular panel segments that open onto the red felt-covered playing surface – Integrated, concealed drawer on the side. Design: The table is inspired by the Louis XV style with its curved silhouette, emphasized corner cartouches, and softly modeled apron. The C-shaped curves of the legs, the three-dimensionally carved rocaille and floral motifs at the leg bases, and the flowing lines follow the design principles of the Rococo, while the version from around 1890 shows a historicist revival of these principles. Function: Originally, this piece of furniture served as a specialized game table for card and parlor games with a noise-dampening felt surface. Today, in addition to this original use, it can also be used as a side table or standalone table in the living room. Dimensions: Height 73 × Width 60 × Depth 60 cm; unfolded 80 × 80 cm. Material and Condition: Oak, red felt covering on the playing surface. In age-appropriate condition with visible signs of wear, stable construction and functional folding mechanism; the felt pad shows a small light spot. Surfaces inspected and treated appropriately.
