A rare set of two ceiling lamps, model 2079, designed by Max Ingrand and produced by Fontana Arte in Italy around 1960. These striking lamps feature a gold oxidated bass structure that supports five crystal glass rings, each one asymmetrically overlapping the other. The result is a sculptural composition where light plays across the edges of the glass, creating a mesmerizing effect. The central tubular fixture appears to pierce through the rings, culminating in a diffuser shade of white milk glass, elegantly finished with a perforated metal ring. We currently have two of these exceptional lamps available. They differ slightly in the tone of the brass, a subtle nuance that emphasizes their handcrafted nature, and one of the lamps bears a small flea-bite chip on the edge of a shade. Aside from this minor detail, both lamps remain in very good working condition. When installed together, they complement each other beautifully, offering a harmonious pair for a refined interior. This model is an outstanding example of Fontana Arte’s mastery in combining glass and metal into functional works of art, with the exceptional quality one expects from the manufacturer. Kindly note that the lamps are priced and sold individually. Literature; Fontana Arte catalogue ca 1960. Max Ingrand (1908–1969) was a French designer and master glassmaker who became artistic director of Fontana Arte in 1954. During his tenure, which lasted more than a decade, he redefined the company’s creative direction, introducing a new modernity through his refined use of crystal, metal, and light. His designs are celebrated for their architectural clarity and poetic interplay of materials, often pushing the technical boundaries of glass production. Founded in 1932 by Gio Ponti and Luigi Fontana, Fontana Arte quickly established itself as a pioneering force in Italian design, renowned for its collaborations with leading architects and designers. Under Ingrand’s guidance, the company produced some of its most iconic lighting, blending sculptural elegance with innovative craftsmanship. Model 2079 stands as a testament to this golden era, embodying both the artistry of Ingrand and the enduring legacy of Fontana Arte. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
