A remarkable pair of early 20th-century British oil paintings by John E. Hutchinson (1833–1910), depicting traditional English agricultural life during the hay harvest.
Signed J. Hutchinson and dated 1903 and 1904, these companion paintings capture the character of the English countryside at the end of the Victorian era, before mechanization transformed traditional farming.
One scene depicts a team of powerful working horses and farm laborers in the fields, while the companion painting portrays a heavily laden hay wagon being drawn through the countryside, accompanied by additional farm workers and a sheepdog.
