Dutch School of the 18th century, " Venus in the Forge of Vulcan", drawing in black chalk. Reproduced after the 1546 print by Coenelis Bos (1506- 1556), itself rerproducing unlike the picture of Martin Van Heemskerk (1498- 1574)Painting done in 1536 and is currently at the Museum of Prague. In Roman Mythology, most famously told in Virgil's Aeneid, Venus, the goddess of love, visits her husband Vulcan, the god of fire and metalworking, at his subterranean forge. She uses her divine charm to persuade him to craft an invincible set of armor and weapons for her mortal son, Aeneas.
