The work was previously cataloged under the title “Stone Bridge.”

Nelson uses a restrained winter palette of warm brick reds, whites, grays, and muted blues, with loose, expressive brushwork throughout. The strongly defined masonry bridge provides a striking focal point, while bare trees and distant buildings recede into the atmospheric, snow-filled background. Signed “Mimi” at the lower right.

Nelson was a longtime resident of Sherman, Connecticut, and worked across painting, stone, bronze, steel, and aluminum. Best known for her sculpture, she exhibited her work in Florida and Connecticut, and eight of her large-scale outdoor sculptures were selected for permanent installation at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia, New York. She continued painting later in life, producing landscapes and portraits alongside her sculptural work.

Presented in its original painted wood frame, whose simple white finish complements the subdued winter palette.
