An unusual and charming small ceramic jug, entirely hand-molded and hand-painted in polychrome majolica. The piece dates back to the late 1950s or 1960s and bears the brush-tipped inscription "Maiolica Artigiana Umbra . T.," under the base, certifying its authenticity and attribution to the prestigious ceramic district of Torgiano (Perugia). The exterior decoration is distinguished by a textured brown background applied in large brushstrokes, embellished with characteristic thick ceramic drops in white glaze in relief. The sides feature delicate circular basins animated by flying birds and stylized butterflies in green and yellow polychrome. The handle, structured like a zoomorphic figure with a serrated crest and painted with a dense scale motif, is extraordinarily inventive in sculpture. The interior of the jug is entirely coated in a luminous aquamarine glaze, typical of the period's experimental designs. The hand-sculpted ceramic body, modeled in a striking undulating motion where the surface sinuously indents and outdents, is visually stunning. The artist masterfully exploited the natural hollows created by these waves to set the bird-shaped reserves, creating a unique and extraordinarily beautiful effect of sculptural depth.
