The larger unframed work depicts a lively beach gathering beneath colourful parasols with the sea stretching across the horizon, while the smaller framed composition portrays two young children in a sunlit rural landscape. Executed with expressive palette knife and brushwork, both paintings display a fresh, spontaneous handling of paint, harmonious pastel tones and a strong sensitivity to light and atmosphere. The energetic application of colour and loose, painterly technique evoke the traditions of twentieth-century European Impressionism, making these complementary works equally appealing when displayed together or individually. The smaller painting is housed in a decorative gilt frame with a hessian slip, showing light age-related wear consistent with its age, while the larger painting is offered unframed. Frame One painting is presented in a decorative gilt frame with a textured hessian slip. The accompanying coastal painting is unframed. Approximate Date Late 20th century.
