This pair of antique bentwood chairs in the thonet style in steamed beech, with loop back and round seat, reproduces the viennese chair model widespread across central europe around 1900. Originates from central europe, in the vienna secession era, where beechwood was steam-bent using industrial precision moulds.
attributed to the thonet tradition or the central european bentwood school (including makers such as jacob & josef kohn or fischel), this piece reflects the formal and structural standards of early 20th-century viennese production, although no maker’s mark is present to confirm a definitive attribution.
the frame is built entirely of steam-bent beech. The back forms a closed double-loop rising from the rear uprights. The seat is round, in solid wood, and retains an embossed decorative motif now softened by use. The inclined rear legs are joined by a circular lower stretcher.
the beech patina has deepened to a uniform dark chestnut. Surfaces show wear at the main contact points: seat rim, lower stretcher and leg ends. The two chairs in the set present slight dimensional variations typical of hand production.
these chairs integrate easily into viennese café, wabi-sabi or contemporary interiors. They pair well with solid wood, black metal or marble tables.
