In the late 60's I was given this stool by my uncle who was a dentist in Kansas. As described on the manufacturer's original metal plate, this Ritter Rest And Relief Stool, Model C, Type 1, Serial No. 18C5315 was manufactured in the USA by the Ritter Company, Rochester, NY. This 1930s stool has an ingenious swivel ball design that allows the person sitting on it to spin 360 degrees and to lean forward, backwards or sideways with comfort and stability. Originally designed to provide hands-free movement for dentists, these heavy, durable stools also became a favorite for painters, ceramic artists and doctors. This German design is made of iron & steel with industrial chrome plating and stitched leather seat. A beautiful, unique furniture piece that while almost 100 years old, has been meticulously cared for and preserved to retain its original luster and beauty. Most all of these vintage stools today have significant rust and wear or have been repainted or reconditioned...this stool is still completely original.

The diameter of the steel base measures 11.5", the leather-stitched seat measures 11.25" in diameter and the stool is 25" tall. While the stool has a mechanism that allows it to be adjusted to 32" in height, I have never attempted to raise the seat height. Please note the very minor cosmetic scuffing to the leather seat as shown in the close-up pictures. See less
