Iconic to the artist's work and part of his "Spring Snow" series, the surface of the clay was hand-pinched to form small ridges and indentations. Covered in a moss green glaze that calls to mind the Oribe ware, blueish and white feldspar-like glazes were applied as the small pools scattered in the crevices, a poetic image mimicking the melting snow in the field of green mosses. The piece bears an artist's seal and incised signature on the edge as shown. The bottom of the vessel was left mostly unglazed.
Showcasing the intimate relationship of the artist with the raw material and an organic hand-making process, the vessel highlights a wabi-sabi aesthetic with intentional unevenness and randomness, an essential aspect of an ephemeral beauty, the melting snow, in nature.
