A scarce articulate brooch crafted by French art jewelry designer Line Vautrin (1913-1997) circa 1950s-1960s. The brooch features six linked tiers of sections in gradually reduced size. It was made in Talosel frame inlayed with small purple glass mosaics. The back is fitted with bronze pin that appears to be original, and studio branded "Joux" (Joy in English) which Line Vautrin used on her small Talosel jewelry pieces circa 1950-60s. Depending on the angle of the light, the small brooch reflects different hues of with a luminescent sparkle. The articulate construction also facilitates a subtle movement to reflect the light.
Starting in the 1950s, the innovative Parisian jewelry-maker invented and patented a new material she called "Talosel" by manipulating cellulose acetate resin under heat to make lightweight and unique frame which she embedded with mirror fragments. She created both jewelry pieces and mirrors using this technique. Due to the fragile nature of the materials, not many pieces survived in good condition.
For another comparable articulate Talosel brooch, see illustration on page 82 of the book "Line Vautrin Sculptor, Jeweller, Magician".
Located in Tishu Atlanta.
