Mixed metals with hand-applied polychrome — the dappled white horse, the driver in blue and rust, the verdigris ground line — mounted in dimensional relief so the whole scene stands off the wall and throws real shadow. Signed and dated 1982. Equally at home in a mid-century interior, a library, or an equestrian room.

Curtis Jeré was never a person. The name was invented in 1963 by Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels for their Southern California workshop, Artisan House, which produced sculptural metal wall art for the American home through the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. The work ranged from brutalist abstraction to detailed narrative scenes, always in mixed metals and always signed by hand. See less
