Brass Shabbat Five-Branch LIONS OF JUDAH CANDELABRUM, 20TH Century 17 x 15 1/2 in. (43.18 x 39.37 cm.)
A magnificent antique solid brass five-light Shabbat candelabra — an exceptional example of Eastern European Judaica almost certainly crafted in Poland in the late 19th or early 20th century. Acquired from a private estate, possibility it could be an early 20th-century (or maybe even late 19th-century) hand-cast piece. The design includes what looks like Lions of Judah and possibly griffin-style guardian figures, which I’ve seen associated with Jewish ceremonial artwork. It also appears to be made using a sand-casting method — the underside shows a rough cast surface with no modern mold seam lines.
