A chessboard is more than a surface for a game. It is a place of measured silence—where patience is tested, strategies unfold, lessons are passed down, and quiet conversations take place between moves. Across generations, these boards have carried stories long after the final piece has been played.

Measured Silence is individually crafted as a lasting object of play, craftsmanship, and ritual.

Built to tournament proportions, the board features an 18⅛-inch playing field surrounded by a substantial 2⅞-inch border, providing space for captured pieces while preserving the balance and proportions of the traditional playing field.

Quarter-sawn white oak and Peruvian walnut are precisely arranged into the checkered field. The playing surface is framed in quarter-sawn white oak and surrounded by a broad, mitered Peruvian walnut perimeter, creating a sequence of material and proportion that gives the board its architectural presence.

Each surface is carefully finished by hand, allowing the grain, figure, and natural variation of the wood to remain present. Rather than concealing the character of the material, each board allows it to become part of the composition.

Designed to be played, displayed, and passed forward, Measured Silence is made individually rather than produced as an identical object. Natural variations in grain, color, and figure ensure that each commission is singular.
