Hand-carved from solid regional hardwood, it features dense, highly meticulous geometric chip-carving including zig-zag borders, vertical columns, and diamond accent panels. During the 1700s (the 18th century), Scandinavian woodworkers extensively relied on mortise-and-tenon joints secured with wooden pegs (dowels) to build multi-piece textile tools like niddy-noddies.

Cultural History
In traditional rural Norwegian and Swedish culture, highly decorative textile implements were carved by young men as custom courting gifts(fästmansgåvor). This tool displays an extraordinary level of care, intentionally engineered with an ingenious collapsible design. By removing the retaining pegs, the crossbar arms could be aligned perfectly flat on a single plane, allowing it to fit seamlessly into a shallow travel chest or basket without breaking the delicate, tapered axe-profile arms.
