A striking mid-century modern tuxedo-style sofa manufactured by Founders Furniture, upholstered in an extraordinary hand-dyed velvet in molten orange, teal, and cream. The clean-lined, low-slung silhouette is pure period modernism, but the fabric is the star: a painterly, non-repeating pattern with color bled deep into the pile, so no two panels are alike. This fabric appears on a very few documented pieces of furniture, suggesting an extremely limited production.
Attributed by estate oral history to Milo Baughman, with hand-dyed Jack Lenor Larsen upholstery. Sectionals and chairs in the same fabric and proportions have sold with the same attribution over the years. We have not independently verified it beyond identifying those comparable pieces. Exact age is unknown.

Structurally sturdy and comfortable, with springs that give a vintage sink-in feel without bottoming out. The foam is still comfortable. The upholstery is in good condition overall, with only a few minor thread pulls. There are no odors, and the tie-dye appears bright and does not appear to be sun-faded. Notable flaws: There is a small hole in the lower right corner (see picture). The decking under the cushions has some staining plus a few small holes (see picture). All flaws shown in the photos. The bold tie-dye pattern camouflages these flaws well, and under normal observation do not detract from the sofa's appearance. less
