The oval pedestal base continues the effect below, built from individually cut vertical panels that reveal a different expression of the stone's veining from every angle. Quarried in the Apuan Alps of Tuscany, Cipollino takes its name from the Italian word for "little onion," a nod to the layered bands folded into the stone over millions of years of geological movement — no two slabs come out quite the same.
