The composition is handled in a loose, expressionistic manner, with the architecture simplified into large areas of charcoal gray, brilliant blue, ochre, and golden yellow. The sunlit portion of the building is rendered in exceptionally heavy impasto, giving the façade a rugged, almost sculptural surface, while the broad shadow introduces a strong geometric element to the composition.

Although clearly representational, the painting approaches abstraction through its cropped perspective, simplified forms, emphatic color blocking, and highly gestural handling of paint.
