This extraordinary original oil on canvas is a signed work by the renowned Catalan painter Francisco Guinart Candelich (Sant Celoni, Barcelona 1888 - Pollensa 1974). Depicting a sensitive and highly expressive costumbrista scene—featuring a figure in a traditional setting with potential Moroccan or North African stylistic influences—the artwork showcases the artist's technical mastery through loose brushstrokes, rich impastos, and a vibrant color palette with clear Impressionist touches.
As indicated by the historical label accompanying the piece, Guinart was an artist with a distinguished career. After training at the prestigious Llotja Fine Arts School in Barcelona, he relocated to Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 1936 and 1948, fleeing the instability in Europe. During his Argentine period, his work was highly acclaimed by local collectors, leading to solo exhibitions at the legendary Galería Witcomb. Interestingly, the reverse of the artwork bears a handwritten inscription that appears to read "rmen alger", adding a layer of intrigue and history to the piece.
This painting holds great documentary and historical value, faithfully representing the mid-20th-century Catalan school and its strong international connections.
Please note: This painting is sold unframed. The canvas is mounted on its original wooden stretcher and is ready to be custom-framed to suit your interior.
