This mirror was hand … Read more Stunning antique Black Forest Mirror acquired from a European antiques dealer in Denver 20 years ago. This mirror was hand carved and has its original glass. It was finished in 1897 and has the date and woodworker's name carved into the back. It features a dark patinated frame decorated with clusters of grapes, large, overlapping grape leaves and acorns. The corners extend outward in a cross-hatched pattern mimicking a rustic garden trellis. Beautiful scrollwork down the sides and across the bottom including tangled vines that twist around the trellis frame and more leaves which point downward as they would on a trellis. The frame employs a faux bois treatment which looks like rough tree bark, enhancing the entire piece. Although the mirror itself is quite heavy, the carvings are very delicate. This was done by a master craftsman, most likely in Austria. Normal wear for its age. See less
