An extraordinary and exceptionally rare Art Deco console designed by Pierluigi Colli, Italy, circa 1930. Among the most accomplished expressions of Colli's early production, this remarkable console transcends furniture to become a sculptural architectural statement. Entirely hand-carved from solid wood and finished in genuine gold leaf, it exemplifies the extraordinary level of craftsmanship that established Pierluigi Colli among the greatest Italian cabinetmakers of the twentieth century. The monumental pedestal rises from the floor as a stylized lotus blossom, its deeply carved vertical fluting gradually unfolding into a magnificent crown of overlapping leaves that gently cradle the marble top. Every profile has been individually sculpted by hand, creating an exceptional play of light across the gilded surface while emphasizing the dynamic, almost organic movement of the composition. The design perfectly embodies the refined dialogue between classicism and modernity that defined the finest Italian Art Deco interiors. Resting above is the original slab of extraordinarily rare Iranian red marble, selected for its dramatic white fossilized veining and remarkable chromatic depth. The rich mineral surface contrasts beautifully with the warm gold leaf, producing a composition of remarkable elegance and visual balance. One of the most fascinating aspects of this console remains hidden beneath the marble. Colli designed an ingenious adjustable solid brass threaded support that allows the stone to be perfectly leveled, accompanied by its original wall anchoring system, ensuring complete stability while remaining entirely concealed. These sophisticated engineering details reveal the obsessive attention to construction that distinguished the workshop's finest bespoke creations. Originally commissioned for and preserved inside an important Roman villa, the console has remained remarkably authentic. Its original gilded finish has developed a beautiful natural patina over nearly a century, giving the carved surfaces extraordinary depth while preserving every sculptural detail. Works by Pierluigi Colli of this sculptural ambition and exceptional quality appear only rarely on the market. Combining monumental proportions, superb hand carving, luxurious materials and ingenious construction, this console represents one of the finest surviving examples of Italian Art Deco decorative arts, equally suited to an important private collection or the most sophisticated contemporary interiors. Dimensions: Width: 135 cm (53.15 in.) Depth: 35 cm (13.78 in.) Height: 80 cm (31.50 in.) Condition: Good vintage condition. The original hand-applied gold leaf displays a magnificent age-related patina with minor wear consistent with nearly a century of careful use. The rare Iranian red marble top is beautifully preserved with only light signs of age. The original adjustable brass leveling screw and wall anchoring system are present and fully functional. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
