Brass table lamp with shade. Retains the original manufacturer's label. Anders Pehrson, Ateljé Lyktan, 1960s, "Bumling" table lamp.
Designed by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan and introduced in 1968, the "Bumling" table lamp is made of brass and features a large cylindrical lampshade with a rounded profile, designed to push the light source back and diffuse a direct, glare-free light. The name derives from the colloquial Swedish term bumling, which translates as "clumsy" or "big and awkward," a term chosen ironically by the designer due to the deliberately generous proportions of the shade. Pehrson, who led the design renewal of Ateljé Lyktan from 1964, made the Bumling series one of the company's greatest commercial successes and one of the most recognizable models in Scandinavian lighting. The piece retains the original manufacturer's label.
