Title: 16th/17th Century Italian Old Master Antique Oil On Ornate Wood Panel Religious Icon
Subject: A devotional religious icon featuring the Madonna and Child in a pastoral landscape, set within an architectural Gothic-arched window framework. The lower panel includes a detailed early Italian inscription reading "libro della Ore della gentil Donna Matilda ornabuont virtuosa posa del magnifico essr Rinaldo Rimaldelli di Monferrato."
Medium: Oil painting on an integrated, highly ornate carved and gilt-accented wood panel frame featuring gilded rosettes, scrollwork, and painted trim.
Details: Unsigned. Professionally restored in 1989 by conservator C. Gregory Stapko of McLean, Virginia (documentation affixed to the reverse). Fitted with a wire on the back ready for hanging.
Size approximations: 14 3/4 inches x 20 inches; the panel is 7 inches x 10 1/2 inches.
